DAY SEVEN – YESTERDAY´S LUNCH

TGIFYesterday´s lunch was my monthly meeting with one of my best friends: Jeronimo. I know it´s not the healthiest lunch in the world, but for us is a tradition. We go like once a month to TGIF and order this dish called “Three for all” on it serving for four (is not that big, because is not a main course). We are buffalo wings lovers, and we love the buffalo sauce. I have a collection of bufallo wings sauce on my fridge. Everytime I go to USA, I bring my own dose. I love spicy, and as stronger it is, better it tastes. Well, the dish also comes with delicious fried mozarella sticks, potato skins with cheese and bacon, and thats it.

Hello and thanks to my followers in Germany, Italy, Spain, China, Taiwan, Washington D.C., New Jersey, Chicago, Bogotá, and all those everywhere else! Kepp coming, and enjoy life (maybe by having once a month your unhealthy dose of your favorite meal!)

DAY SIX – BREAKFAST

Good morning! Today I had a healthier breakfast than the one from yesterday.
I had a banana, toasts, low fat cheese, and hot chocolate.
Had a good night, but couldn’t write on the blog, because we had a blackout for about two hours on the north of Bogota. Lights went off on the exact moment I was cooking some pasta. I had to ignite the firepace and some candles to finish the Alfredo sauce and had a rommantic type dinner near the fireplace. Then went to bed and energy came back, so we watched Hairspray the musical which we recorded two nights ago while broadcasted on HBO.

I’ll be writting later to tell you more about the trip (have some news)!

DAY FIVE – BALLS

I was surfing arround while attending my Colombian History Class. Oh, after eating my delicious sandwich lied for a while on a kind of stone at the campus. Just 3 or 5 minutes. Then I went to the court, to check how was going a trial labor I´m managing on behalf an ex-worker that sued a company that went into bankrupcy and fired her. OK, after the trip (10 minutes walking) to the court, came back to the campus and now attending class. I´m very very tired and need a nap urgently!!!

OK, as you can see, I´m a little distracted right now, so as I told some lines above, I was surfing on the internet and on other blogs that talk about BALLS.

These are some definitiosn brought out by dictionary.com (out of 25 results):

Ball.

–noun

1.

a spherical or approximately spherical body or shape; sphere: He rolled the piece of paper into a ball.

 8.

 Slang: Vulgar. a testis.

9.

 balls, Slang: Vulgar.

 a.

 boldness; courage; brashness.

 b.

nonsense (often used as an interjection).

And the went to the wordpress´search engine, filled the blank form with the word “balls”, and hit “Search”….these are some results that I found, and are the product of what other bloggers are saying right now about balls:

At golftenerife.wordpress.com:

There your Balls !

January 15, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Love your Balls

Stroke your Balls

Show your Balls to close friends and family

Wash your balls regularly and make them shine

If you have really dirty balls, scrub them but not too hard

If you burst one of your balls see a Pro as soon as possible

Never Rack, bounce or crush your balls

Remember always to kiss your balls before driving or putting this is for luck

But remember never, ever Lick them…..”

At tsopanis.wordpress.com:

You can find the lyric for the AC/DC´s song BIG BALLS:

“I’ve got big balls
I’ve got big balls
They’re such big balls
And they’re dirty big balls
And he’s got big balls
And she’s got big balls
(But we’ve got the biggest balls of them all)”

At sleepfather.wordpress.com:

“I have a 22 month old boy. Technically, that makes me a father. But in reality, I’m a child. An immature, inappropriate child.
Example: over the course of his small life, he’s acquired a little basketball, a little soccer ball, and assorted other kinds of balls. I’ve found that it’s impossible to say any of the following things to him without stifling a giggle:

these balls don’t belong to you
let’s go find your balls
do not kick your balls in the house
where are your balls?
go get your balls”

AT TUNICA VAGINALIS: Just quoting the other blogs, and trying to relax about the balls´cancer!

DAY FIVE – LUNCH

Sunny day in Bogota. As last time I got cancer I had to left college for a year, now my friends already graduated and I’m a little bit alone at college, because I don’t know many people here at school. So, because of that and by having to have lunch here twice a week, I have to eat alone. Please don’t feel ashamed for me, because I enjoy it. I sit on the campus, at a fast food eatery or at a restaurant and watch and listen to the people passing by. I also talk to myself and use the time on a wiseful way to plan the rest of the day. Just like when one takes a shower, but without singing.
Today’s lunch: a delicious ham sandwich -tastes great! – that I bought while filling up the tank of my car. Picture and post sponsored by my BlackBerry via the wordpress app

DAY FIVE – EARLY

5:45 a.m. Good morning everyone! I know it´s very early, but had enough sleep.

Forgot to tell you that yesterday my wife´s workmates organized a prayer beads for my health. That was very sweet from those unknown persons for me, but special, very special for being involved in this cancer situation. As far as I can tell, there were about  school teachers and my brother in law. They had food and then prayed. Faith is what makes us strong. I´ll keep saying…Have faith as if it were only in God´s hands, and have the courage as if your destiny were only on your own hands.

I´m hungry, going to have some pancakes (don´t tell the Spice Doc!, remember to follow her nutrition recommendations)   ;)

I´ll be posting today. Hope to have some time to work on my trip´s docs.

Good morning on the west! Good afternoon in Europe, from where my dad is following the blog, and good evening in Asia, hope everyone had a good day.

DAY FOUR – BUSY, VERY BUSY DAY

Hello world! It was a really busy day. Just got home and still have a lot of things to do for college. Couldn´t work on the cancer thing because I had a lot to do. Today, I spent almost the whole day writting for my journalism class. I got a great story that tells how back in 2007 two cops killed a homeless. The two criminal cops were convicted to many years in prison. I´ll be publishing the story tomorrow or after tomorrow on my other blog – in spanish -, which is http://avenidabogota.blogspot.com . On that blog I publish stories and chronicles that I make and fun stuff about life. Very recommended for my spanish readers followers.

So, as I told, had no time for working on my cancer thing. Sometimes is better not thinking on that the whole time.

A lot of people called me to the cell phone. Because I was so busy writting the chronic, I couldn´t answer the calls. Now, on the next hour, I´ll be returning calls – basically to friends and family -. Is great to know that there is a lot of people caring for you, and more on these days. I also received mails from my cousin in Chicago, and my aunt in NJ. I´ll be answering tomorrow!

The Spice Doc wrote on the blog. She asked me to explain that the cigars aren´t cigars at all (take a look to the day two if you don´t know what´s this about). They really are Moxa bustion sticks, which the Spice Doc uses by approaching them to some parts of the body (without touching the skin, you just feel the heat). So, dear readers, don{t worry, those are no illegal drugs. 100% legal and can be found on every China Town of the world (we don´t have China Towns in Colombia, it´s a shame! just some disgusting chinese restaurants served by their chinese owners).

Spice Doc also wrote me about the diet one should have to fight against cancer. Even if you don´t have cancer, you should try to follow it as much as you can. I´m going to share it with you:

“avoid/NO dairy (except hard aged cheese and plain yogurt), wheat, sugar, and fried foods.
- I know it seems like this is EVERYthing but you’ll be surprised it’s not really much of your food source.  You can still eat all vegetables, potatoes, corn, all meats/fish/etc, rice, beans, and if you want something sweet have some honey on fruit or with plain yogurt.  They sell great honey in Bogota.  Quajada isn’t a bad thing either once in a while.  And you don’t have to be super strict but trying to do this 90% of the time would be great.

You should try to incorporate this into your diet to treat the area of your testes:  pumpkin (calabasa), pumpkin seeds, potatoes, leeks, corn silk (you can make tee out of this!), walnuts.”

OK dear readers, thanks for keep coming to visit the blog. And thanks for the comments! Got to go, to make some (a lot) of calls, and then have some sleep.

Have good night for all in the west. And good day for those in Taiwan and Thailand that are following the blog!

DAY THREE – TREMBLING DAY

Hello world! I already know there are a lot of readers out there, we scored more than 100 yesterday and knocked out my fear of not having readers, just as Julie, or Julia with their book and blog – great movie by the way! -

Long day and a lot of stories to telll…so, I hope you join me!

First the good news: Yesterday on the evening I spoke to Dr. Veghese´s assistant who told that I´ll be an outpatient, which means that if everything on the surgery results as planned, I won´t have to overnight not even just 1 night at the hospital! I would be cleared to go to the hotel (Courtyard by Marriott at Dupont Circle) to sleep like a baby with the remnants of the anesthesia on my wife´s arms. Then the recovery for some weeks, and a new appointment with Dr. Mohan Verghese, who is from India, and I´ll tell you more about him and the rest of the staff on a new post next week. But, to be honest: The staff from the Washington Hospital Center (which is like a small town), is absolutely great; a lot of people and doctors from abroad, a special unit for the war veterans brought in directly from war in Irak and Afghanistan, great Cancer Center, and the most important thing when it matters about health: great souls, great human beings that care about you and your family.

OK, those where the very expected great news. Don´t you think they are?

You may be asking yourself: ¿Why was this third day a trembling day for Sergio? And this is the answer.

My day started about at 6:30 a after my wife went out to work. I stayed in bed for a while, then had some breakfast, received the maid who comes every Tuesday for the cleanning (just behind our buliding they are making a construction, which brings a lot of dust to the apartament), and went out to the office. Well, today I had to go walking to the office because I forgot that my car had restriction (in Bogotá you can´t drive the whole week, depending on the last number of your plate, you have to leave the car at home twice a week)…so I walked, after all it was a beatiful day, and it makes me feel good to walk. -just 15 minutes away frommy workplace).

After today´s debate (remember, I´m a member of the council from one of the 20 Bogota´s boroughs) which was about cultural events in the borough, I went to my dad office to arrange more things related to the mesothelioma.

I bought my tkts to Washington, via Orlando (I love JetBlue) and from MCO to DCA via U.S. airways on Capt. Sully´s wings, and then started filling out forms for the insurance and some paperwork I have to deal with. At the time I was doing this and that, the earth started to move, literally. DAY TWO – GOOD NEWS FOR TOMORROW

A little bit tired because of last night and this long day. Have good news that I´ll be posting tomorrow morning. Good night to the west, and good day for those on the east (as my uncle that just arrived to Taipei and doesn´t know which day is it now in Colombia – 13 hours behind -).

DAY TWO

Long night. Didn´t sleep very well. Forgot to write about some things from yesterday. Spent the whole day with my wife and talked about the situation and the possibilities of having a baby after the surgery. We´ll consider the sperm bank. Yesterday at 6:00 p.m. we went to church (catholic). the word from the Lord was telling the story from more than 2000 years ago, when a blind man called Jesus who was on his way. The blind man, asked Jesus to cure him, and so did He. The blind guy followed Jesus, and cured because it´s own faith.

We didn´t have dinner yesterday, had a great lunch with gourmet sandwiches, colombian coffee and salads. My wife went to bed early and watched “Sex and the city”, I think the fourth season, when Miranda´s boyfriend looses his testicle, – nothing to worry about -, he wanted a fake silicone replacement but Samantha didn´t aloud him to buy it. Funny for the moment I´m living.

I also talked last to night to a tunica vaginalis mesothelioma survivor who lives in Illinois. He´s doing great and encouraged me a little bit more to fight against this new possible cancer. I also want to say about this cancer that of what I read on the internet, only 2000 people are diagnosed with this disease every year on the United States (a country with a 300 million puplation)…so I bought the Baloto (lottery), on saturday, but just hit one number (the 30) out of six that you need to win the US 7 million dollars prize.

Oh, how did I contact the mesothelioma survivor? There are a lot facebook groups with patients and relatives of mesothelioma patients. I e on one of those walls, and the survivor´s wife wrote me back and told me to call them. And I did it. So easy..I use to receive some messages from patients and their relatives regarding my experience with the peritoneal mesothelioma, and try help them and guide them on how it is going to be. This time I switched places, and I was the one getting advise.

So, long night, awake from 1:30 to 4:00. My dad who is on vacations in Spain wrote me supporting me. Went to office from 8:00 to 9:30, now at college trying to manage the things with my clases and thesis. I´ll keep posting, good day for everyone, and hello world! (I know there is someone reading! I´ll be waiting for your comments)

P.S.: Just talked to my wife. Permission granted from school to go with me to D.C. I´ll be leaving November 11. She´ll be flying on the 16th or 17th.
